Win 1.5 million Rupiah for your scholarship!

In October 2008 the maritime museum, also known as Museum Bahari, will organize a contest for Indonesian students living in Jakarta giving them the opportunity to win one and a half million Rupiah (about US 160,-). This respectable amount of money for an Indonesian student is a welcome complement to their scholarship.

The contest requires the students to build a true replica of one of the traditional Indonesian crafts, in a low cost manner. The traditional vessels like the wooden pinisi (or schooner) still play an influential role in the maritime sector of Indonesia. Just make a visit to Sunda Kelapa to witness this.

When there is lack of inspiration the Museum Bahari will provide some ship models who can serve as example. One can sign up as a team or as a person only. A jury will assess the models and choose a winner. Next to the first prize of one and a half million Rupiah is the second prize: a sum of one million Rupiah and the third prize: 750.000 Rupiah.
This ship modeling contest is intended for the SMP students who live in Jakarta.
Who knows: perhaps you grab this opportunity to continue your study and ultimately start a career in professional shipbuilding?

This contest fits in with the mission of the museum management to present the Museum Bahari in Jakarta as a key institution for preservation of the maritime culture in Indonesia and to promote the improvement of surrounding communities in regards to education, economy, culture and tourism.
