“Memorandum of Understanding” signed by Minister of Transport

Even though it has been a while we like to inform you about the joyful event that, during the opening of our exhibition “Jakarta, born out of Sunda Kelepa” in December 2008, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Minister of Transport, Mr. Jusman Syafii Djamal, and the current governor of Jakarta, Mr. Fauzi Bowo.

This important document prepares the way for further development of the maritime museum in Jakarta as well as her surroundings. In essence three main goals are mentioned in this M.O.U. These are:
· Revitalization of the museum area and the surroundings of Sunda Kelapa.
· Expansion of the current museum collection with new artifacts.
· Facilities to the Museum Bahari to organize events together with the Directorate-General of Sea Transport.

The Museum Bahari operates with a budget of DKI Jakarta, under the government institution of Tourism and Culture, but is physically located in the harbour area of Jakarta. This area comes under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport hence the necessity for this Memorandum. Together with this event the exhibition was officially inaugurated as is shown by the pictures …

This event fits in with the mission of the museum management to present the Museum Bahari in Jakarta as a key institution for preservation of the maritime culture in Indonesia and to promote the improvement of surrounding communities in regards to education, economy, culture and tourism.
