Mayor of Rotterdam opens exhibition in Jakarta
The mayor of Rotterdam will formally open the exhibition “Hidden treasures of the Museums in Jakarta” in the Erasmushuis in Jakarta. The opening will take place on 13 June 2008 and will also be attended by the Governor of Jakarta.
This cooperation project with the sister city of Rotterdam, the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam and the Dutch embassy in Jakarta runs until 2009 and has as aim to further professionalize the museums and the Conservation Laboratory in Jakarta. During this exhibition each participating museum is showing the most special objects of her collection. The maritime museum, or Museum Bahari, also will participate in this exhibition. They will show amongst other “treasures” beautiful pictures about the remains of the old city wall.
Amongst other participants is the Historical Museum (Sejarah), the Museum Pulau Onrust, the Wayang Museum (puppets) and the Textile Museum. “Hidden treasures” runs from 14 June to 24 July and admission is free.
The Erasmushuis is the centre point of Dutch culture in Jakarta and is active in profiling this culture. For additional information about this exposition refer to:

This initiative fits in with the mission of the museum management to present the Museum Bahari in Jakarta as a key institution for preservation of the maritime culture in Indonesia and to promote the improvement of surrounding communities in regards to education, economy, culture and tourism.
