" Jakarta, born out of Sunda Kelapa "
As from December 2008 the maritime museum, also known as Museum Bahari, will open
her new exhibition "Jakarta, born out of the Harbor of Sunda Kelapa".
The focus of this two months lasting exhibition is on the long maritime
tradition of Indonesia and especially the role of Jakarta as harbor city.
Therefore several nations were approached like Turkey, Sweden, Spain and China who
committed themselves to this exposition.

The exposition consists of three major parts: the history and function of Sunda Kelapa, the
vessels who called at Jakarta and the role of the people in the development of this harbor.
This exposition will give visitors, who are up to the challenge, a change to play an interactive role.
What about a shanty contest or a recital contest of maritime poetry especially for Indonesian students?
The children also will play an interactive role hence a visit to the Museum Bahari will be worthwhile for anybody.
The admission to the museum is almost nil. With paying of a small amount you can take on a (English speaking) guide
who will tell you more about the lively history of the museum buildings. A must-do after you had visited the exhibition.
The Museum Bahari opens daily from 9.00 AM to 3.00 PM except every Monday when the museum is closed.
This exhibition fits in with the mission of the museum management to present the Museum Bahari in Jakarta as a key institution for preservation of the maritime culture in Indonesia and to promote the improvement of surrounding communities in regards to education, economy, culture and tourism.
