You can visit the Museum Bahari by means of your own transport, taxi or public transport.

Your own car or taxi

By using the “Harbour Toll Road” and through the old city centre Kota you can reach the museum by car or taxi. However, we recommend the route via the toll road to avoid the traffic congestions in Kota.

“Harbour Toll Road” out of direction of SLIPI or airport Soekarno Hatta:
On toll road take exit Sunda Kelapa.
Turn left on Jl. Gedung Panjang and follow this road approximately 150 meter.
Then make U-turn.
After 80 meters on Jl. Gedung Panjang, turn left on Jl. Pakin.
After 200 – 250 meter on Jl. Pakin (channel on your right-hand side) you will see the old Tower of the Harbourmaster.

“Harbour Toll Road” out of direction Ancol or Tanjung Priok harbour:
On toll road take exit Sunda Kelapa.
Turn right, underneath the toll road on Jl. Gedung Panjang.
Make a U-turn after approximately 200 meter.
After 80 meters on Jl. Gedung Panjang, turn left on Jl. Pakin.
After 200 – 250 meter on Jl. Pakin (channel on your right-hand side) you will see the old Tower of the Harbourmaster.

Out of direction of Kota city centre or Monas monument:
Take Jl. Gajah Mada and follow this road.
You will pass the huge shopping mall Mangga Besar at your right-hand side and continue on this road towards Stasiun Kota.
After the Museum Bank Mandiri and Museum Bank Indonesia (big historical buildings) on your left-hand side, turn left and cross the bridge with the river Kali Besar.
Straight after passing this bridge turn right on Jl. Kali Besar Barat and follow this road.
At the crossing with Kali Besar Timur 3, turn right and straight left on Jl. Cengkeh and follow this road underneath the major highway (Harbour Toll Road).
When you keep following this road (note the poor condition of this road during rainy conditions) you will see the old Tower of the Harbourmaster on your right-hand side.

Due to the infamous traffic congestions of Kota this route is not recommended by us.

Public transport

Transjakarta By using public transport Museum Bahari can be reached in several ways. When taking the Transjakarta Busway, exit at Stasiun Kota. From Stasiun Kota several options are available: Mikrolet or Kopami minivan, moped taxi (badjaj or ojek), bicycle taxi (sepeda ontel) or just by taking a stroll.

Please be warned about pickpockets around the area of Stasiun Kota who are often active and like  to take care of your personal belongings.

Mikrolet of Kopami minivan

Outside Stasiun Kota take the (lightly blue colored) Mikrolet line no. 15 or the (dark blue colored) Kopami line no. 2. Both means of transport take the same route to the museum. On the moment you enter the van please mention to the driver about your destination “Jalan Pasar Ikan”. A trip will cost approximately Rp. 2.500,- per person (tourists and Indonesians). One can negotiate about the fare but it should be around this amount. When traffic is congested the trip will take about 10 – 15 minutes. When traffic is calm about 5 – 10 minutes.

Mikrolet During the trip you will pass historical buildings as Museum Bank Mandiri and Museum Bank Indonesia at your left-hand side, the bridge on river Kali Besar which you will cross and turn right. Via Jl. Cengkeh you will cross the “Harbour Toll Road”. After the “Harbour Toll Road” the trip continues about 100 – 150 meter until you come at a T-junction where you need to exit.

On this T-junction you see the old Tower of the Harbourmaster. Here the Mikrolet will turn right and continue its trip via Jl. Krapu and Jl. Lodan to Ancol; the Kopami will turn left and continue its trip via Jl. Pakin towards Pluit.

Bicycle taxi (Sepeda ontel)
Obviously this is, next by taking a stroll, the most environment friendly option. A trip on the backside of this “classical Dutch” bicycle cost about Rp 5.000,- per person. One can negotiate about the fare but it should be around this amount.
Sepeda ontel
A ride starting from Stasiun Kota will take 5 to 10 minutes subject to traffic congestions. When using this option please take caution about yourself: a bicyclist isn’t the strongest player in the field. Especially motorcyclists do have a (dubious) reputation in Jakarta.

Taking a stroll

A stroll starting from Taman Fatahillah (at the Historical Museum) or Stasiun Kota will cost nothing, besides 15 minutes of your precious time.
You pass the historical buildings Museum Bank Mandiri and Museum Bank Indonesia. After Bank Indonesia turn left and cross the bridge on the river Kali Besar. After this, turn right and follow the road Jl. Kali Besar Barat adjacent to the river. On the crossing with Jl. Kali Besar Timur 3 continue your way on Kali Besar Barat and walk underneath the highway (Harbour Toll Road). Continue your stroll along the river or via the adjacent road Jl. Kakap. At Jl. Kakap you will see the building VOC Galangan, which was a former VOC shipyard in earlier times. Opposite the channel you will see the old tower of the Harbourmaster.
